12/2/2023 - The Marquette County Democratic Party is deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of executive board member Bob Niemi this morning. Bob had recently gone into hospice care following the diagnosis of a quickly spreading malignant stomach tumor. Bob was a long-time dedicated public servant of Marquette Country having a career as director of the Marquette County Transit Authority, and then after retirement, being a Marquette City commissioner and mayor. He was currently serving on the executive board of the Marquette City Board of Light and Power. An announcement concerning funeral arrangements will be made early next week.

UPDATE: Please join us to celebrate Bob’s life at St. Michael’s Parish, 401 W. Kaye Ave., Marquette, on Saturday, December 9, beginning at 10 a.m. with visitation until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in the church with the Rev. Gregory Heikkala officiating. The Funeral Mass will be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/robert-niemi

A luncheon will be served in the Zyrd Parish Center immediately following the Mass.
